Bleeding can kill, but YOU can Stop the Bleed!
The American College of Surgeons (ACS) STOP THE BLEED® (STB) program is administered by the ACS Committee on Trauma and taught to improve the care of injured patients before, during, and after hospitalization. This approximately 1 hour training includes a formal presentation which is then followed by hands-on practice. Participants practice applying direct pressure, packing wounds, and using a tourniquet to stop bleeding. The Oregon Health Authority’s Health Security, Preparedness Response Program with the Oregon Emergency Medical Services and Trauma Systems have endorsed the skills and principles presented in the STB curriculum.
The Stop The Bleed campaign was created to inform, educate and empower civilians to recognize life-threatening bleeding. STB trains civilians to rapidly respond by treating with their STB skills.
This course is designed for anyone physically capable and willing to perform proper bleeding control techniques. Victims of severe hemorrhage from a work or household injury to an active threat event (e.g., public shooting incident), can die from uncontrolled bleeding in minutes. Trained civilians can act as an immediate responder and save lives.
